Angelica sinensis, commonly known as “dong quai” or “female ginseng” is an herb from the family Apiaceae, indigenous to China. Dong quai (Angelica sinensis). Angelica is a genus of about 60 species of biennial and perennial herbs in the family Apiaceae. Dong quai’s chemical ingredients consist of coumarins, phytosterols, polysaccharides, ferulate, and flavonoids. Dong quai is used in many of the over 100,000 medicinal formulations described within the traditional documents of Asian herbology.
